The Internet and other new means provided by information technology for planning and decision-making, the greater concentration of industrial actors and of service providers, the demands on efficient distribution channels, the globalisation of exchanges, ever narrowing profit margins and, of utmost importance, the high-quality service demanded by the consumer, create an increasingly restrictive environment for managers, who have to help consumer goods reach the end customer in the most effective way.
The importance of the warehouse in a supply chain
Today, optimisation of the supply chain is a key challenge in the retailing sector. Companies involved in this chain assess this optimisation according to several criteria:
